June 5 Primary - Call to Action!
NOW: Get Out The Vote: David Levitt for US Senate
Join us in voting for David Alex Levitt, on your ballots in Tuesday's June 5th primary.

We're doing something extraordinary: using our elections to stand up for what Americans want, especially the people of California, when other Senate candidates and incumbents who should be representing us just won't do it.
We have detailed Issue statements, and a policy platform to invest in jobs, renewable infrastructure and education, amid fairer taxes - developed by over 100,000 people known as the Contract for the American Dream. For the June 5th primary election campaign we're focussed on 3 issues:
End Afghanistan End Prohibition Medicare for All
- Rescue our soldiers from Afghanistan – where truth tellers like Lt. Col. Dan Davis conclude there is no achievable mission and not one more life should be lost in a war that isn't keeping us safer.
- End the prohibition of medical marijuana – and the ongoing destructive federal raids on California medical dispensaries.
- Expand Medicare to all Americans - provide not-for-profit universal single-payer insurance to younger, healthier people at even lower rates - the way most other civilized countries do.
This year's primary also has a uniquely happy twist: a new rule where the "top two" vote-getters go on the November ballot, regardless of party. So Democrat David Levitt can win without getting more votes than Senator Feinstein - with as little as 5% of the vote!
June 1st update: We did it! We've achieved:
- more Facebook support and Likes than any other candidate challenging Senator Feinstein
- many times more engagement -- 2000 talking about us vs 570 and 150 for the wealthiest Republicans and 300 for Feinstein
- in fact, many of those "Talking About" Feinstein on her page are really criticizing her or recommending Levitt!
- over 250,000 emails from partners have been sent to California voters
- hundreds of glowing, eloquent recommendations of Levitt by voters at ProgressiveBallot.org, more added every hour -- add yours!
NOW it's time to GET OUT THE VOTE for Tuesday, June 5th for David Levitt.

Here's more on what David Levitt stands for, from this week's Brad Blog:
"Instead of wasting trillions on war and giving $7 trillion for too-big-to-fail banks to gamble with as we have the past 4 years, we need to invest in education, infrastructure, and 21st century energy jobs," Levitt says in defining his positions.
Those positions stand in stark contrast to Feinstein, whose husband, Richard Blum, made millions off the Iraq war. Feinstein supported the 2002 Iraq war resolution, warned Republicans not to oppose Bush's Iraq troop escalation in 2007, co-sponsored the USA PATRIOT Act, joined Republicans in voting to limit the scope of privacy protections in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and supported the Obama administration's troop escalation in Afghanistan.
Levitt, on the other hand, calls for an immediate end to the DOJ/IRS raids on CA medical marijuana clinics and for a single-payer Medicare-for-All healthcare system. He not only decries the fraudulent Wall Street schemes that led to the 2008 economic meltdown, but calls for specific solutions, including a break up of the big banks, prosecutions of bank and rating agency executives, restoration of Glass-Steagall, and "a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions by any bank that received bail outs or low interest Fed loans."
Back in 1998, Feinstein was amongst the group of Senate Democrats who opened the door to the Wall Street credit default swaps casino by voting to repeal Glass-Steagall, the Great Depression era banking reform that, for decades, had disallowed investment firms from gambling with the funds of private depositors held in commercial banks.
In an email exchange, Levitt, who says he admires Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), informed The BRAD BLOG that he not only opposes the infamous Citizens United decision but supports Vermont's proposed Constitutional Amendment which would end corporate personhood and establish that money does not equate to free speech under the First Amendment.
Should Levitt succeed in achieving the second highest primary vote totals in next week's CA primary election, this could potentially create a far more significant challenge to Feinstein than any that could be mustered by a Republican --- provided Levitt's substantive positions could cut through the cloud of paid-for political propaganda that only corporate money can buy.
Great News for Democrats
If you're a Democrat, fear not. So is David Levitt. And there's no danger of a spoiler, since Senator Feinstein has 10 times the support of any Republican in the primary.
In fact if Levitt places second, this will be the first US Senate race in California without a Republican since 1856 - and the first one with two Democrats in the November general election, ever!
For once, it's not a "lesser of two evils" choice between what we have now and something even worse. We can vote for what we really want.

AG Holder and Levitt vs Obama on Marijuana
U.S. Senate candidate from California David Levitt called on President Obama to clarify statements he made on marijuana that Attorney General Eric Holder soon acknowledged were misleading, regarding the White House's ability to end marijuana prohibition without new legislation.
Sebastopol, CA (PRWEB) May 03, 2012
Holder’s response to the Schedule I classification question was reported in the Huffington Post.
Let's Vote for What We Want
Who wants our troops out of Afghanistan by first thing next year? (About 69% of us.)
Who wants Medicare for All - like the universal care in the other 35 civilized nations - instead of expensive for-profit insurance? (59% of us.)
Who wants to end the federal War on Marijuana, that keeps more citizens in prison than China or Russia? (Most of us.**)
If you do, you're like most Americans -- and most Californians.
But California Senator Dianne Feinstein, finishing her 20th year, doesn't want any of those things to happen.
I want all those things, and that's why I'm on the ballot for U.S. Senate to represent California.
I'm David Levitt.
Senator Feinstein has been the lead Senator to start those expensive wars, spend your tax dollars on them, and profit from them. These days she's way out of touch with the People.
Fortunately, the people are in charge: there's an election coming.
And under California's new Top Two rule, both Levitt and Feinstein can win in the June primary. Imagine two Democrats on the November ballot - instead of Republican Orly Taitz, who thinks the president's birth certificate proves he's a foreigner!
Support David Levitt now and we'll have a real choice in November:
- Will we continue today's costly, out of touch policies for another 6 years?
- Or will we stand up for not-for-profit health care, our soldiers coming home from Afghanistan, and an end to the costly, unpopular war on medical marijuana?
It's your choice. Let's make it happen.

End Marijuana Prohibition
Most Americans know we need to end Prohibition -- of Marijuana.
In California we also know that once we tax and regulate it, it will add billions to our tax base and help solve our serious budget problems.
Every school child learns about alcohol Prohibition in History class. Anyone can see it in Wikipedia, in the movies, in Ken Burns' new PBS documentary series, or on HBO's Boardwalk Empire: Prohibition breeds crime and corruption.
It makes the prohibited substance impossible to regulate or tax, removes law-abiding competitors from the marketplace, and puts the business exclusively into the hands of criminals. It amounts to a hefty price support for a new illegal business.
Prohibition prevents law enforcement. It quickly creates gang violence and organized crime out of what would otherwise be business disagreements and prosecutable theft.
In a state like California, where cannabis is prescribed by doctors, Prohibition also mixes up Americans who choose a controversial medicine with violent criminals. It lumps them together and literally locks them all up together.
Prohibition hurts cops and DAs, and not just by wasting their time. It invites selective prosecution, bribery and police corruption. It promotes fear and contempt for law among ordinary, innocent people. Prohibition tragically tears at the natural healthy bond between citizens and police.
America learned all this by 1933 after the most famously violent, corrupt 14 years in our history: when Prohibition fueled and spread a nationwide epidemic of Organized Crime. By then everyone knew Prohibition wasn't keeping anyone safe or preventing crime, it was doing the very opposite. It's where Al Capone and the St Valentines Day Massacre came from.
Never before nor since Prohibition has there been an Amendment that tried to take away rights and had to be reversed. We realized almost 80 years ago that Prohibition was unAmerican.
The problem is, politicians like Dianne Feinstein think it's in their interest to act like it's still 1919.
They're hoping their continued support for the War on Drugs and Marijuana Prohibition can make them look tough and help them get elected again. While this unwinnable war has cost a trillion dollars already, these politicians and the drug cartels seem to be the only ones who benefit.
The cartels have killed more than 40,000 along the Mexican border in just the last 5 years. The Mexican president recently confessed that legalizing marijuana could help end many of these problems, but there has been no leadership on the United States side.
Marijuana Prohibition has led to even more corruption and injustice here. Most of the prisoners serving time for parole violations today got there by skipping or failing a drug test. So Marijuana Prohibition is a main reason California's overcrowded prisons have been condemned by the Supreme Court, and why we imprison citizens at a higher rate than China, Russia or Rwanda.
Senator Feinstein's solution is to continue the status quo, step up the Drug War, and build more prisons for more prisoners. Feinstein is loved and supported by the growing private prison industry, which helps fund her campaigns and the scare campaigns against marijuana legalization.
How do they sell it? Same way they wage their other wars. With lies.
To politicians like Dianne Feinstein there are no known medical uses for cannabis. A million sick people and their doctors' prescriptions just don't exist. The patients who were literally vomiting themselves do death, who now applaud their doctors for prescribing marijuana? They don't exist. Those 55% of Californians who voted for medical marijuana? -- Don't exist. Just like a climate change denier, when facts and science don't fit their ideology, politicians like Feinstein make them disappear.
Despite that kind of dishonest and backward leadership, most Americans now think marijuana should simply be legalized, while 3 out of 4 favor medical marijuana by prescription. But instead Feinstein's drug war has federal prosecutors at war with California doctors, patients, and state police. It's cowardly, wasteful, unfair, and unAmerican, and it's got to stop.
California needs a Senator who stands up for the truth and for the people - including sick people in states like ours who voted for access to medical marijuana.
And we want to finally end the famously corrupt policy of Marijuana Prohibition.
Let's make it happen.
